Serious Situation in Via della Figuretta: Councilor Mazzarri and the "Gatti Mammoni" Request Immediate Intervention

PRESS RELEASE
Minority Councilor Dr. Elisabetta Mazzarri reports the serious situation via della Figuretta and requests immediate intervention from the competent institutions for a situation that is located on the border between the territories of San Giuliano Terme and Pisa.
SAN GIULIANO TERME, 10.19.2024 – Minority Councilor Dr. Elisabetta Mazzarri intervenes on the critical condition of the road via della Figuretta, located on the border between the municipalities of Pisa and San Giuliano Terme, following recent reports of the risk of collapse of the embankment that runs alongside the road.
This morning, the volunteer of the cat shelter "I Gatti Mammoni", Marta Della Rosa, together with the president of the association, Erika Simi, requested the intervention of the Fire Brigade, as the embankment adjacent to the road is collapsing due to heavy rains, further aggravating the risk for traffic. Despite numerous reports, neither the Municipality of Pisa nor that of San Giuliano Terme have taken concrete action, limiting themselves to passing the buck until, despite Google maps, used by the Municipal Police of Pisa who insisted on attributing responsibility to the Municipality of San Giuliano Terme, it was possible to understand, thanks to the Fire Brigade, that the road is under the responsibility, at least territorially, of the Municipality of Pisa.
The situation is now unsustainable: this morning the Municipal Police of Pisa have cordoned off the road, preventing access by vehicle to the shelter and making it difficult to transport supplies and adopt animals. "This blockade prevents not only access to the cattery but also to the owners of the surrounding land and structures, including a villa, who must be able to access with their own vehicles," underlined Councilor Mazzarri.
Barriers and danger signs had already been present along the embankment for some time, evidence of a previous buffer intervention that was never completed. "The institutions must intervene urgently and resolve this serious problem before a definitive collapse occurs, putting the safety of citizens, volunteers, and motorists at risk," the Councilor said.
Via della Figuretta, which can be reached both from San Giuliano Terme via del Brennero, and from Pisa via di Gello (Paratroopers' Road), represents an important connection for the existing structures, and the current stalemate is unacceptable.
We cannot allow bureaucracy and administrative inertia to compromise the safety and functionality of this area," added Dr. Mazzarri.
Following the reports, the Councilor also requested the intervention of the Land Reclamation Consortium responsible for the maintenance of rivers and ditches in the area. "It is essential that the
Consortium and the Municipalities collaborate for a definitive resolution of the problem before the situation worsens further," concluded Mazzarri.
The Councilor therefore requests immediate intervention by the Municipality of Pisa, considered responsible at least by territorial jurisdiction to clarify who should take care of the road, to guarantee safety and full accessibility to the area.
